Cosgrove Say Thank You to the South of Glasgow Community!

Posted on July 31, 2020

Cosgrove Care has received enormous support to help our work in supporting adults and children with learning disabilities, their families, and older people. When social distancing measures came into place, the community responded immediately in a most gracious manner, 200 volunteers, have delivered over 2000 interactions including delivering food parcels and essential items to older people’s homes, as well as telephone befriending, prescription collection and activity packs.

We launched an emergency appeal to help sustain our work and through community support, partnership working, charitable grants and socially distanced fundraising activities, such as afternoon teas and online quizzes we have been able to raise a fantastic £130,000 to deliver our essential work in new and safeways, for example, creative arts, drama and wellbeing activities being delivered online and quickly re-establishing summer play schemes and using technologies such as chrome books to help achieve this work. We have also enhanced our indoor and outdoor spaces, bringing the ‘outdoors in’, and creating safe ‘all weather’ outdoor spaces, such as Gazebos to carry out support work and recreational activities. We have been supported by local businesses, charity partners, schools and grant organisations including East Renfrewshire Good Causes, Strathclyde University, Mearns Academy, Peter Vardy, Bilson Eleven, Kilsyth Rotary Club, Morrison’s and Young Enterprise Scotland, Awards for All, Shared Care, Voluntary Action and Foundation Scotland and support from local MP Kirsten Oswald.

Thanks to the help from the Community, we have been able to deliver 5 weeks of summer playscheme to 37 local families at Young Enterprise, Rouken Glen. Each child has received an individual kit of activities and PPE items. At Cosgrove Care, we remain solutions-focused, optimistic and welcome the community to further support us on our journey, either through volunteering or supporting some of our up and coming events. These events include our Virtual Quiz (Sun 16th Aug); Afternoon Tea (Sun 30th Aug); Drive-in Movie (October); Whisky Tasting (28th Nov); and Gin Tasting evening (December).
