Sunday 26th of June was a busy day for Cosgrove Care. The organisation held its 50th Anniversary Big Day Out, hosted a reception and then finished the day with an ABBA Fever concert.
The Big Day Out was well attended by the local community and was a great success. There were a range of attractions and activities to suit fun seekers of all ages. These included handcraft stalls, small animal petting zoo, face painting, magician, puppet show, café, games, drama, drumming, a Strathclyde fire engine, music and a raffle. The day was opened by Ken Macintosh, MSP for Eastwood and the raffle was drawn by Jim Murphy, MP for East Renfrewshire and Shadow Defence Secretary – both of whom brought their families along to enjoy and participate in all the activities. Sainsbury’s Darnley also participated – they brought along space hoppers for the kids and a bottle stall for the adults – they very generously donated all the bottles and enough staff to run the stall on the day.
Cosgrove’s volunteer co-ordinator, Linda Davidson, who helped organise the event said “Sunday’s Big Day Out took a long time to arrange and there was a lot of co-ordinating involved, but it was all worth it as everyone said they had a great time. Of course, the day wouldn’t have run so smoothly if it wasn’t for all the staff and volunteers who pulled together and helped out on the day. If it was not for them, Cosgrove wouldn’t be able to run an event on the scale of the Big Day Out.”
